President

In 1994, after a stint in Guatemala as a member of the Peace Corps, Tracy returned home to the U.S. Two thousand miles from the Land of Eternal Spring, she contemplated her next move, which brought her to MVI shortly thereafter.

At MVI, Tracy put her cartography knowledge to use, working as a Mapping Assistant. Over the next several years, she moved up the company ladder, becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2006 and President in 2009. Tracy credits good communication, strong leadership and the continuous generation of fresh ideas as her best methods of piloting the company to new levels.

Involved at every stage of product development, Tracy enjoys playing an immediate role in the evolution of ideas and projects. Creating a database, designing a magazine, implementing a social media strategy—from start to finish, these are the things she loves to see come together. Asked about a memorable project, she refers to the creation of MVI’s internal database, which was equal parts challenging and rewarding. Not only does the database improve workflow efficiency, but its creation has made MVI less paper-dependent and more environmentally friendly.

A typical week brings Tracy back and forth between the Connecticut office and her home on Shelter Island, a town off the coast of eastern Long Island. Accessible only by ferry, this area of beaches, coves and inlets lies in sharp contrast to Norwalk’s urban landscape. At home, Tracy enjoys cooking, going for a run, unwinding at the beach, and taking walks with her husband, Bryan and daughter, Eliza. Their loveably rambunctious Chocolate Lab, Bella is always close by. Aside from family time, Tracy also finds fulfillment in My Time For Me, a company she founded in 2006. True to its name, My Time For Me’s purpose is to give women of all ages an opportunity to socialize, learn new skills and simply enjoy taking time out for themselves.

Tracy was named one of Fairfield County’s 40 Under 40, recognizing young business executives making an impact in Fairfield County. She holds a degree in Recreation Management from the University of Vermont, and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

General Manager

JoAnn started with MVI back in 1987 as an Editor, and has had roles as Managing Editor, Group Publisher, Chief Operating Officer and Senior VP of Operations. After a six-year leave from the company, she was welcomed back in 2012 as General Manager. JoAnn’s open-mindedness and diplomacy allow her to effectively keep things running smoothly at MVI. Oh, and a sense of humor doesn’t hurt either. JoAnn fully believes she can make a difference and positively impact the team members here—something she strives for each day.

Passionate about genealogy, at home JoAnn can be found working on her family history, and is a proud member of both the Connecticut and National Genealogy Societies. She also finds time to oversee caregiving groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, and craft a novel. When the travel bug hits, JoAnn yearns to be among the buffalo and beauty found in Yellowstone National Park, or high energy and bright lights of Las Vegas.

JoAnn holds a degree in English (minor in Journalism) from Western Connecticut State University.

Graphic Designer

Chris has been part of MVI’s design team since 2001, working in production as both Mapping Supervisor and Graphic Designer. He values the freedom to use his creative talents on the job and attributes his success to his quick problem-solving and learning, keeping a balanced view of projects, and good old hard work.

Chris admires Rush drummer, Neil Peart and The Twilight Zone creator, Rod Serling for their dedication to and achievements in their respective crafts. His favorite Twilight Zone episode is a toss-up between “An Occurrence on Owl Street Bridge” and “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street.” Forced to pick a favorite Rush song, he narrows the field down to three: “Subdivisions,” “Vapor Trails” and “YYZ.”

Away from the office, Chris enjoys writing, recording and performing music, which has allowed him to travel all over the world for shows. He can’t live without water or EPL Football (that's soccer).

Chris studied English at Boston University.

Senior Research Editor

Sara has been playing an integral role at MVI since 2009, initially as a Fact Checker and then as a Researcher in the Editorial Department. She is primarily responsible for researching and verifying client content. One of her favorite aspects of the job is witnessing the development of projects, from initial concept to final product.

Science fiction and fantasy rank high among Sara’s favorite literary genres. Her passion for writing means a pen and notebook are always within arm’s reach, and she hopes to one day publish a novel. When Sara isn’t crafting stories about time travel and galaxy colonization, she can be found with friends or walking her dog, Brandewyne.

Sara earned her bachelor’s degree from Lyndon State College, where she studied English (with a concentration in Literature and Cultural Studies) and minored in Business Administration.

Digital Media Coordinator

Heidi’s been a part of the MVI team since 1998. Over the years, she’s experienced both the Editorial and Production departments, serving as an Editor, Production Coordinator and Director of Directory Development. Heidi is now our Digital Media Coordinator, managing the social media channels and search engine optimization for our clients. She’s found communication to be a vital tool in her day-to-day success. Looking back at the breadth of projects she’s been a part of, she fondly regards the Dunkirk-Fredonia Telephone Community Pages as the most memorable. Here she was given the reins to write all of the content, and even took a road trip out there to gather photography for the section (now that’s dedication!).

Heidi lived on the East Coast for 14 years, and is now back in her hometown in Oregon. This cross-country move means she telecommutes to our Connecticut office each day. She is ecstatic to be closer to her family, including her sister, who she considers her best friend. Outside of work, she can be found helping her niece with homework or in town volunteering at various events. Living in a rural agricultural area, Heidi especially appreciates the freedom her car provides, allowing her to pick up and go anywhere on a whim. It’s safe to say there may be some more road trips in her future.

Heidi graduated from Southern Oregon University with a degree in Communications; Journalism.

Managing Editor

Lena’s eight years at MVI have taken her from Fact Checker to Associate Editor, to Senior Editor, then Deputy Managing Editor before landing her in the role of Managing Editor. Her responsibilities include overseeing the workflow of the research department and coordinating with associate editors, both of which require the communication abilities of Winston Churchill and multitasking skills of several supercomputers.

A culinary enthusiast, Lena can teach you the basics of leavening, the art of stir-frying, and how to chiffonade basil with one hand tied behind your back. Some of her favorite dishes to prepare include pulled pork with homemade barbecue sauce and fresh beer rolls, potstickers, and homemade tomato sauce.

Lena graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a bachelor’s degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management with a concentration in Psychology.

Graphic Designer

Dorothy joined MVI’s design team as a Graphic Designer in March 2012. A naturally gifted artist with a penchant for painting, pottery and printmaking, she enjoys the challenge of blending traditional art with modern technology. Dorothy believes that a solid knowledge of the design software and an eye for detail are essential to succeeding in her role.

Hailing from Smithtown, Long Island, Dorothy has called Connecticut home for more than 25 years. She has one dog—an African Ridgeback/Lab/boxer mix named Stella, and two cats—Mia da Kitty and Little Guy, who has, by all accounts, well outgrown his name. Along with her children, her husband and coffee, they round out the list of things Dorothy can’t live without.

Away from the world of art and design, Dorothy enjoys hiking with her dog, gardening, cooking, and being with family and friends.

Dorothy graduated cum laude from Western Connecticut State University with a degree in Graphic Design.
